Schools in The Mountains

Hamilton County Public Schools in this community include Lookout Mountain Elementary School and Lookout Valley Middle/High School. In Signal Mountain, Thrasher Elementary School, Nolan Elementary School and Signal Mountain Middle/High School are excellent public schools. Signal Mountain Christian School is a private K-5 elementary school with an emphasis on academic excellence and spiritual training, taught in a hands-on environment. For little ones just starting out at the preschool age, Signal Crest Preschool and St. Timothy’s Episcopal Preschool are great options in the area.

Exploring Chattanooga’s Mountains

Some of Chattanooga’s best rock climbing locations are in this community, at Sunset Rock, Old Wauhatchie Boulders, Lower Leda, Upper Leda and Little Rock City. There are many trailheads within walking distance of this neighborhood, in addition to the incredible Lookout Mountain Incline Railway, a steep funicular railway system that has offered spectacular views of Chattanooga for the past 125+ years. Rock City is just a short drive away, featuring massive ancient rock formations, gardens with over 400 native plant species, and breathtaking panoramic views.

Not only does this community offer incredible outdoor experiences, but it’s home to some great dining options as well. Cafe on the Corner in Lookout Mountain prepares Southern-style food with locally-sourced ingredients in an upscale atmosphere. Fireside Grille in Lookout Valley offers hearty American food from burgers to seafood in a welcoming, friendly environment. Hummingbird Pastaria in Signal Mountain is a seasonal scratch kitchen that uses fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. El Metate in Signal Mountain is a local favorite that serves delicious and unique Mexican food.

Navigating Chattanooga’s Mountains

With plenty of hiking and biking trails throughout Chattanooga’s mountains, exercise enthusiasts will have no trouble navigating these communities. However, the best way to travel within these neighborhoods is by car. Within 15 minutes, you can be at the center of all the action in downtown Chattanooga, and within 25 minutes, you can jet set to your next destination from Chattanoga Airport.
